Walking isn't just good exercise, it's also a great way to enjoy yourself, getting out into the country and hiking. You might want the steep, barren hills of the Peak District, the taxing length of the Pennine Way or the more rolling, and less strenuous, scenery of the South Downs, but wherever you go in Britain, there's plenty of glorious hiking.

However, there was no website to satisfy both beginners and experienced hikers - and that's why we created WalkingAndHiking. Even if you've already covered thousands of miles, you know that there's still plenty to learn. If you're a newcomer, we point you in the right direction - not just literally, but also with plenty of guidance about the gear you'll need for walking, from boots (and you'll need good boots) all the way to GPS devices.

Once you're kitted out, we'll offer tips on the best way to walk and stay healthy, to avoid blisters, and what to do in case of an emergency. If you want to know about groups for company as you hike, we'll tell you how to find them.

For people with more experience, we'll suggest walking holidays, and some of the great hiking challenges, like "bagging" Scotland's Munroes (all 284 of them), race walking or long-distance walking.

Walking is a pastime that can last a lifetime, and at WalkingAnd Hiking, our experts - all avid hikers themselves - help you discover and make the most of it.

We really want to help spread the word and if you can help by linking to WalkingAndHiking then we really appreciate your help.
